Installer Quick Tips
Mixtures:
Use ONLY distilled water.
Soap Solution - Fill a clean spray bottle with water and add 4-5 drops of Johnson & Johnson's baby shampoo (enough to make the film slippery).
Alcohol Solution - Use 70% rubbing alcohol. Fill bottle between 10-15% with alcohol and fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water.
Prior to Installation:
Read all instructions.
Remove any wax prior to installation.
Remove any excess film from the paper backing, leaving only the pieces to be installed. This will make it easier when unrolling the kit onto the car.
Installation Tips:
Our kits are designed to be a little shorter then the actual hood dimensions. The film is intended to be stretched to the edge and tacked into place. Stretching the film allows the film to contour around curves and minimizes "fingers" from popping up. Be sure to overlap your strokes as you apply the film. By doing this, you avoid trapping air and solution under the film. Pay close attention to contours and curves, as these are bubble prone areas.
If you need to reposition a piece because of trapped air, solution or dirt, gently pull back the material. Check often for these installation defects. Stretch marks could occur if you try to pull back the material after it has been set for longer then ten minutes.
Headlight film - Use heat from a hair dryer to make the film softer and more applicable. Use only the alcohol solution when installing.
After Installation:
Go over every edge with a hair dryer and a paper towel to make sure the edges are sealed properly. This may need to be done two or three times after the install. Try to do it within 24 hours.
If any bubbles appear hours after installation, leave them. Park the car in a sunny area and allow the sun to evaporate the bubbles through the film. This process could take up to a week. If an air bubble remains trapped underneath the film, use a thin needle or a syringe to remove the air.
We recommend purchasing a can of Plexus wax for UltraShield film. This will keep the film shiny and smooth.
